Problem of Practice
Combating 9th grade Absenteeism
My problem of practice was a strategic intervention focusing on the attendance and behavior problems among a select group of at risk 9th grade students. The Problem of Practice was implemented with four individual students. These students were at risk due to their high number of school absences and large number of discipline referrals. Students were rewarded based on increase in attendance and decrease in discipline referrals. As a result of this initiative the students were able to increase their attendance and reduce their behavioral referrals by 50%.
